After working with Dr. Ortiz I gained a better understanding of my condition and learned about the most appropriate treatments for me.

LupusDr. Ortiz was the first doctor that listened to me and provided me with a diagnosis. She helped me and my wife understand what I’m dealing with and what to expect, all while being very compassionate. Dr. Ortiz is a treasure. Not too many people look forward to going to a doctor appointment, but I did.
Gary
SclerodermaDr. Ortiz listens to her patients and treats each one as an individual. She helped me manage my medical condition by listening to me and helping me stay on top of my health. Sometimes she just listened to my fears and brought a reasonable and educated point of view to help me.
Catherine
SclerodermaDr. Ortiz was the first doctor I have met that takes her time with each patient and truly listens to your concerns. She is very knowledgable, is up to date on all forms of treatments and takes time with each patient, is kind and is a great listener. Dr. Ortiz doesn’t just look at her patients as “just another appointment to get through.” She truly see’s each individual as a person.

Rheumatoid ArthritisDr. Ortiz always has my health as her priority. Even with a difficult to manage disease, she makes reasonable recommendations and makes sure I am comfortable with moving forward to new treatment plans. I love her warmth and bedside manner as well as her responsiveness to my concerns and her trust that I knew my body best.

Rheumatoid ArthritisI would definitely recommend Dr. Ortiz to any family or friends. In fact, I actually did recommend my mother to her! She made sure that I knew which steps we were taking and why we were taking those steps. One of my favorite things about Dr. Ortiz is she makes you feel safe to be able to discuss anything.

LupusPrior to meeting Dr. Ortiz, I was resigned to the idea that I would live with daily arthritic pain. I lived in fear that things like the weather or stress would send me into a debilitating episode. Dr. Ortiz worked to come up with a treatment plan that improved my arthritis tremedously (to the point that I now live 100% pain free) while not impacting my quality of life. Aside from receiving great medical care, I am very fond of Dr. Ortiz’s jovial nature, I always feel like she is not just happy to see me, but sincerely wants to see me thriving.
Paloma
Juvenile Idiopathic ArthritisShe has a great combination of bedside manner, technical skill, and an excellent understanding of rheumatoid disease. She sees the disease and the person, not just the disease.
Ann

FAQs
How does the Connected Consult 2nd Opinion differ from seeing my in-network rheumatologist?
Dr. Ortiz takes a different approach to autoimmune care. Without the restrictions placed by insurance, she can provide the time and attention those with an autoimmune or rheumatic condition need. She can provide full explanations and collaborate with each patient to develop a care strategy they can take with them to their healthcare providers.
Although the Connected Consult does not include prescribing medications or ordering tests and Dr. Ortiz does not serve as a primary rheumatologist, once you have had your initial consult, you can return for follow-up visits to discuss new results or condition changes. Each followup is $299 and includes a 30 minute telemedicine visit and written summary of your conversation.
Is this available every where in the US?
Dr. Ortiz can conduct rheumatology consults in Texas, California, Florida and Tennessee. If you live outside of these areas, we may have referrals in your area. Contact us here or email info@connectedrheumatology.com.
I live outside the US, can I schedule a consult?
At this time Dr. Ortiz is unable to see any patients outside of the states of Texas, California, Florida and Tennessee in the United States.
Do I need to send my medical records?
To get the most out of your visit, it’s important to upload the records you would like reviewed at least 3 days prior to your consult. Dr. Ortiz reviews all records with an incredible amount of detail and this can only be done when the records are received ahead of time. If your records are not uploaded in time, you may still have your appointment, however the level of detail given may not be as complete.
Can I have my doctor send over my records?
Absolutely!
In order to do this, you will need to complete a “Medical Records Release Form” with your current doctor and include the following information:
This process can take a week (sometimes 2!), so please be mindful of this when self-scheduling your appointment.
Can Dr. Ortiz become my rheumatologist?
At this time Dr. Ortiz is not taking on new patients and cannot prescribe or order tests for those who have a Connected Consult.
Can I have a follow-up appointment?
Of course. Let’s be real – when you have an autoimmune condition, things can change. You may get new test results or a new diagnosis and may want to discuss those changes. Follow-up consults include 30 minute telemedicine visits with Dr. Ortiz, review of any new results you provide and a written summary of your conversation, for $299.
Does my health insurance cover the Connected Consult?
Unfortunately this type of service is not covered by medical insurance and we do not provide Super Bills.
I have Medicare, can I have a Connected Consult?
Yes! But the consult is a self-paid service and Medicare participants must agree to not bill or attempt to get reimbursement from Medicare.
I have a binder full of records, how can I get them to Dr. Ortiz?
The Connected Consult includes review of up to 100 pages of medical records. For every 50 page increment above the 1st 100 pages, there is an additional $50 charge.
When you self-schedule your appointment, you will be given instructions on how to upload your medical records for review.
